A Holiday Celebrating Clams
Sunday, March 31 happens to be National Clams on the Half Shell Day. Although Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana doesn’t serve clams on the half shell, we serve something even better.
Any guesses?
Yup, you got it. Pepe’s is home to the iconic White Clam Pizza. A New Haven-style staple, Frank Pepe’s signature White Clam Pizza has been voted the #1 pizza in America by The Daily Meal multiple times and people come from far and wide just to try it. Topped with fresh clams, grated cheese, olive oil, fresh garlic, and oregano, the White Clam Pizza is legen…wait for it…dary.
Origins of the Famous White Clam Pizza
The White Clam Pizza was most likely an original recipe thought of by Frank Pepe himself. To this day, it’s believed that the idea for the White Clam Pizza was born from the fact that Pepe’s also happened to serve raw littleneck clams from Rhode Island on the half shell as an appetizer. Who would have guessed?
The White Clam creation surfaced during the mid-1960s and has been well sought-after for the past 50+ years. You can enjoy it at all ten of our locations across Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, and Massachusetts.
