Jane and Michael Stern are the creators of Roadfood, a “good-eats guide to authentic regional eats,” which is now celebrating it’s 10th edition and has made it’s way online. For over 40 years, the pair have driven across the US seeking out regional American dishes, ensuring that when visitors travel to a new place, they’ll know just where to go for the most “memorable local eateries.” Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria has had the privilege of being included to the Roadfood guidebook, not only in Connecticut, but also New York.
Jane and Michael Stern’s work has yielded over forty books, including Roadfood, The Lexicon of Real American Food, Square Meals, American Gourmet, Elvis World, The Encyclopedia of Bad Taste, and Way Out West. The culinary enthusiasts have won three James Beard journalism awards for their monthly column in Gourmet Magazine, and are weekly contributors to “The Splendid Table” on Public Radio.
The Sterns have visited and written about four of the Pepe’s locations. One in Yonkers, New York, and the other three which they include to be in the “Essential Dozen,” on the Connecticut Pizza Tour. After their long anticipated visit to Pepe’s they said, “When the warden asks us what we want for our last meal, this is it: Pepe’s white clam pizza.” Thank you, Jane and Michael for you rave reviews, and many years of support!
