The online food hub known as Eater recently published an article about Frank Pepe’s 90 years of apizza dominance and accompanying Northeast expansion. The article, posted on June 10, 2015 by Daniela Galarza, details the chronology of Frank Pepe’s, from Frank’s initial bakery to the multi-location business it is today.
Not only does Galarza relate the familial and tradition laden story of Frank Pepe’s, she also presents her correspondence with Gary Bimonte, one of Frank’s grandsons and the patriarch of the family-owned business. In the interview, Bimonte discusses his 40 years with the business, from his days as a pizza box folder to his current role as the quality assurance executive for all locations. Bimonte also discusses other matters, such as the clams they use in their world renowned clam pies and the friendly competition amongst Frank Pepe’s and the other New Haven apizza legends, like Sally’s Apizza and Modern.
